Where Plants and People Thrive Together

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are committed to educating, connecting, and inspiring plant lovers through events, workshops, and community-driven initiatives.

Our mission is to cultivate a passionate community of plant enthusiasts by making plant ownership and appreciation accessible, meaningful, and educational for all. Through community engagement, educational resources, and inclusive social events, we foster deeper connections to plants and each other, encouraging growth in both knowledge and community.

Rooted in Passion, Growing Together

RVA Tropical & Exotic Plants began on October 12, 2020, when Carl Alexander created a Facebook group to help locals buy, sell, and connect over their love of plants. What started as a small online space has grown into a vibrant community with over 4,000 members, united by a shared enthusiasm for tropical and exotic plants.

From these humble beginnings, we've evolved into a dynamic hub where plant lovers come together in person and online. Our popular plant swap events draw over 600 attendees, creating opportunities to buy, sell, trade, and discuss plants. These gatherings not only increase the variety of houseplants available but also foster a sense of community among enthusiasts and local businesses.

In addition to our swaps, we host engaging workshops that make learning about plant care both enjoyable and practical. Our events are designed to be interactive and community-driven, focusing on sharing knowledge and experience in a fun, supportive environment.
